Colonial Hearth Cooking Class

Cooking lessons in 18th and 19th century methods of cooking over an open hearth are scheduled on Saturday March 22, 2008. Students learn the basics of hearth cooking, using traditional colonial implements including a tin reflector oven, kettles, Dutch oven, spider and griddle. They then feast on the items that they have cooked. The menu includes Hearth Roasted Pork Loin, Glazed Apples and Potatoes, Creamed Turnips, Cranberry Chutney, Slapjacks, Colonial Loose Leaf Tea,and Apple Cider.
Classes will be conducted at the historic 1803 eight fireplace, twelve room Medad Stone Tavern at 197 Three Mile Course, Guilford, CT. A donation of $35 for Society members or $40 for non-members will cover the cost of food, firewood and instruction for the class. The class size is limited and advance reservations are required. Directions to The Medad Stone Tavern: I-95 Exit 57. Follow US 1 North (East) past Bishop's Farm Market on left. Go past the next traffic light.
Three Mile Course is first right after Strawberry Hill Shops. Go 1 block where Three Mile Course jogs to the right and then left past the school. Medad Stone Tavern is on the right.
